everyday photography

I photograph on walks in nature and urban environments, watching the light and hoping to capture quiet moments of unexpected drama, poetry, and humor encountered by chance. I am mesmerized by the colors and textures revealed by natural light. I am fascinated by the cycles of nature and the struggles of humans to create beauty and order despite the passage of time and the chaos of entropy. I usually don’t take pictures of people, but the presence of humans is seen in the objects, architecture, the work they have done, the marks they have made; they were just here, and they might be back soon.

I’ve been using cell phone photography and Instagram as a sketchbook of sorts, collecting images that I come across in everyday life. Currently, I am beginning to search through several years of digital photographs to bring the images into the world in material form as prints, paintings, and mixed media works.
